Success rates are one of the most important deciding factors to consider while choosing a clinic. Unfortunately, it is also the hardest thing to take into consideration as different clinics measure and show the success rates differently. The metrics you can see on clinics’ websites can vary from pregnancies to live births to birth per embryo transfers and everything in between. So how do you go about comparing different clinics based on their success rates which are measured and shown differently on their websites? Well, to do that we should first understand the reporting requirements of clinics and how regulations work in the UK.
Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority is the regulator responsible for licensing, inspections and setting standards for how fertility clinics should operate in the UK. The HFEA issues licenses and ensures fertility clinics follow a code of practice and procedures are carried out in line with the latest scientific evidence acting as an advocate for patients keeping their best interest in mind.
All licensed fertility clinics are required by law to provide HFEA information about treatments they carry out and their outcomes. HFEA does a terrific job of collecting the information in a consistent format and making it available to the public so we can analyze the data and bring valuable insights to patients like you so can make informed decisions based on unbiased information so you maximize your chances of having a baby without the sales-y mumbo jumbo you might find on individual clinics’ websites, a lot of who seem to claim to have the best success rates in the UK!
We thought we’d do a bit of a reality check and bring to you the data as-is from the HFEA website and rank clinics based on their success rates. Please note that the HFEA data is for the period 01/01/2017 to 31/12/2017 and shows Births per Embryo Transferred for ages 38 and under.
Feel free to hover over each of the clinics below to see their success rates in the bubble next to them.
Hope you find this information useful in your fertility journey and choosing the right clinic. If you like to see other data let us know in the comments or reach out to us and we will try our best to bring it to you in an unbiased way.
